SECOND CALL

The 12th Belarusian-Russian Workshop

SEMICONDUCTOR LASERS AND SYSTEMS

27 – 31 May 2019, Minsk, Belarus

The Workshop is organized by B.I. Stepanov Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The Workshop traditionally consists of reviews, contributed oral reports and posters in a wide range of topics on physics, techniques and applications of semiconductor lasers, including laser diodes, electron-beam and optical pumped lasers, other types of semiconductor lasers, sources and detectors of radiation, on technology and properties of semiconductor materials and heterostructures and a variety of optoelectronic devices based on them.

The working languages of the Workshop are Russian & English.

Three sections are planned:

  • 1) Diode-pumped solid-state lasers, laser spectroscopy (Chairman of the section is G.I. Ryabtsev)
  • 2) Technological aspects of semiconductor structure formation (Chairman of the section is E.V. Lutsenko)
  • 3) Physics of semiconductor lasers and LEDs: theory, experiment, application (Chairman of the section is G.P. Yablonskii)

Visa-free movement via the airport “Minsk National Airport”.
According to the Presidential Decree, effective from July 27, 2018, foreign citizens of 74 countries can enter Belarus for up to 30 days and exit from the territory of Belarus only through the State border checkpoint of the Republic of Belarus “Minsk National Airport”. The given order of visa-free movement through the airport does not extend to persons coming to Belarus by plane from the Russian Federation, as well as to those who intend to fly to the airports of the Russian Federation (such flights are considered as internal ones and do not have border control). The term of visa-free stay is calculated in calendar days; the first day corresponds to the date of arrival, the last day coincides with the date of departure (regardless of the time of arrival and/or departure). Visa-free regime does not extend to holders of diplomatic, service, special and other passports equivalent to them. The trip is carried out for private, business, tourist or other purposes not related to employment, commercial activity and education, if the term of education exceeds 30 days.
To enter the Republic of Belarus in the visa-free regime via the checkpoint “Minsk National Airport”, foreign nationals should have the following documents:
- a valid ordinary passport. The passport must be valid at least 90 days beyond intended date of departure from the Republic of Belarus; - financial means: amount equivalent to not less than 2 base rates for each day of stay or 50 base rates if the stay is full 30 days, in Belarusian rubles or foreign currency; - a medical insurance policy with coverage for at least 10 000 euros, valid in Belarus during the whole duration of stay.

Cultural program:
  • Sightseeing tour of Minsk– May 27, 14-00 – 17-00.
  • Suburban tour: town Rakov (Felix Yanushkevich Ethnographic museum), town Ivenets (Dzerzhinovo), town Krevo (Krevsky Castle), Smorgon, Zalesye village (Manor of Michael Cleophas Oginski), Molodechno, Minsk – 29/30 May (9-00 – 19-00).

The introductory dinner will be held on May 28 at 18-00, café "Akademicheskoe".

The approximate cost for the participant of the seminar paying the registration fee will be 10 Belarusian rubles (5 USD). For accompanying persons the cost will be 50 Belarusian rubles (25 US dollars).

The town Rakov was firstly mentioned in historical documents in the 14th century: lands were given into possession to the Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Since then, they had been repeatedly passed from hands to hands by owners and states. The greatest prosperity the town gained during the period when Rakow was owned by Sangushko. Hard times bred complex relationships, ideology, many religious denominations. At the end of the 17th century the Catholic Dominican monastery was founded there, and in the beginning of the 18th century the Uniate Basilian monastery was built. At the beginning of the 20th century the magnificent neo-Gothic church of Mother of God Rosaria was built. Jewish population contributed its own colors in polyhedral religious culture. There was time when the Jewish community was 60% of the town population. Before the lands were joined to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Rakov located near the border of Poland and the Soviet Union. Frontier life was intense, especially in the spheres of economy, transport, trade and policy. Sometimes, however, it was of an adventurous character. Restless and diverse history of the town, ethnic, political and religious discord throughout the history of its existence clearly reflects a rich list of its attractions.

Village Zalesye is associated with a big name of Mikhail Kleofas Oginsky. It is known for certain that one of his most famous and heart-rending opuses “Farewell to my Homeland” was born there, it was later named “Oginisky’s Polonaise” in honor of its consummate author, who essentially was considered to be courageous politician, involved even into the Kostyushko Uprising.

Oginsky estate in Zalesye

A wonderful estate in Belarusian small village went into possession of Mikhail Oginsky thanks to his uncle’s ability, which gifted him one of his numerous estates, where Oginsky lived with his family for many years. Having arrived, Oginsky got down repairing the estate to his own taste, entrusting those works to promising architect Shultz. Oginsky’s estate acquired the features of the classicism, and the palace made of stone was one-storied. It’s noticeable that besides a luxurious palace there were many attractive buildings in the estate. In postwar years Oginsky’s estate in the village of Zalesye was being reconstructed, money was allocated not only from the fund of Belarus but also of other states, which deeply honored the outstanding figure of a great composer and a son of the Belarusian people. The estate of Zalesye has been taken under the patronage of the Republic of Belarus very recently. Literary museum of Mikhail Kleofas Oginsky was placed in the palace, where a cozy café functions for numerous visitors, and the furniture is selected identical to that the famous composer and politician’s family could have used. And once Oginisky’s estate resounded all over the place: dinner parties, ceremonial receptions and splendid balls were arranged in it. The most outstanding political figures of that time and aristocracy of talent gathered there, it was there where a wonderful truth was born in heated arguments and debated.
